Isabel Parra

About the Artist

Maria Isabel Parra is a Colombian-French visual artist who uses her work to explore the connection between individuals and the societies they live in. Formally trained in the arts, she has lived in Hong Kong since 2002, where she expanded her understanding of cultural and societal dynamics through postgraduate studies in Chinese culture and society. Her art reflects this ongoing journey, blending personal reflections with broader social themes.

Parra’s work focuses on how humanity’s natural, social, economic, and cultural ties shape individuals and their environments. She sees these elements as deeply interconnected, influencing how people and societies evolve. Through her art, she seeks to understand the world around her, reflecting on the complexities, contradictions, and contrasts that define modern life. Her pieces question the symbols that represent society, allowing her to be both inspired and challenged by its paradoxes.

Though painting is her primary medium, Parra’s creativity extends into other forms, including printmaking, photography, sculptural objects, and public interventions. These diverse approaches allow her to express her reflections on society and the human experience in unique and thought-provoking ways.

Parra’s art has been exhibited internationally, with shows in Colombia, Hong Kong, Europe, and the United States. Her work resonates with audiences worldwide, offering a fresh perspective on the evolving relationship between individuals and the world around them.
