About the Artist

Richard Crosbie is a Welsh artist based in Hong Kong since 1996. Originally a product designer in the toy industry, Richard experienced a profound transformation during the pandemic, leading him to pursue art with a focus on the vibrant scenes of life in Hong Kong.

Transitioning from computer-based design to traditional art media, he explores watercolour, ink, acrylic, and pastels. Working both outdoors when urban sketching as well as creating concentrated works of fine detail in the studio, Richard aims to capture the essence of life in the territory across different scales — from individual figures, bustling markets tocityscapes and serene harbour views.

He describes his artistic reawakening: “as emerging from sleep to suddenly see and truly appreciate my surroundings.” With Hong Kong as his muse, Richard’s evolving style is not only marked by his distinctive perspective views full of rich detail reflecting his design background, but also he searches for a deeper connection and an emotional truth to the vibrant life around him.

Richard held his 1st solo-exhibition in May 2025 and has participated in numerous other group exhibitions such as the Affordable Art Fair. His works have been collected as commissioned works by patrons, local businesses and Hong Kong aficionados.
